Oscar-winning actor Sir Ben Kingsley surprised workers with a visit to Rosyth Dockyard yesterday.

He was visiting to learn more about the site’s history and was also given a guided tour of the HMS Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier under construction.

He also got to sit in the operator’s seat of the Goliath Crane which dominates the Rosyth landscape (see right).

Sir Ben shot to fame in 1982 epic Gandhi for which he won an Oscar for Best Actor.

His performance as Itzhak Stern in Steven Spielberg’s Schindler’s List (1993) earned him a BAFTA nomination.
